The most important skills are an intense curiosity to get to the bottom of an issue and perseverence – nothing works the first time round! Maths and physics sill and knowledge are definitely helpful when working through trickier problems, particularly when you are working on something innovative or research-based. Beyond that, it massively depends upon what sort of engineering you want to do. Chemical, civil, electronic, etc. all have their nice skillset.
